The Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award is given each year to a senior who achieves excellence in their community, in the classroom, on the court, and through their character. Oregon Ducks star Amanda Johnson is still suffering from a fractured left thumb, but she was named a finalist for this award. Nnemkadi Ogwumike of the Stanford Cardinal was also named as a finalist, and the other finalists can be seen after the jump.

Michelle Kurowski UMBC

Natali Novosel Notre Dame

Justine Raterman Dayton

Brittany Rayburn Purdue

The winner of the award among these ten finalists will be announced during the Women’s Final Four. Johnson is the only Academic All-American among these ten players, and she has a 4.16 GPA to go with 1,327 career points and 797 rebounds in college. She is one of the best ten players in team history, and the team has suffered without her in the line-up.

Before her thumb injury on the 11th of December, Amanda Johnson was averaging 20.1 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game. The forward with 26 career double-doubles was the conference leader in boards per game and averaged the second most points per game before her injury. Johnson is a two-time Pac-10 honorable mention, and she will be on the All-Conference team if she keeps playing like she did before she was injured. Hopefully, Johnson will come back soon and help the Ducks get to the tournament.

Johnson is undoubtedly deserving of this award- or even a mention as a finalist, and the Academic All-American is among the top ten leaders in team history in rebounds, steals, and three-point field goals made. Her work ethic, leadership, and genuine kindness are unquestionable, and she does more than her fair share for the community.
