E.J. Singler Player of the Week

The younger brother of former Duke superstar Kyle Singler, E.J. Singler is becoming a star in his own right. Instead of chasing National Championships in North Carolina, Singler decided to stay within his home state in the less-glorified confines of the Matt Court. With the Oregon Ducks, the senior has been a crucial part of this team and was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for his performances against the Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars.

E.J. Singler averaged 18 points per game and 7 rebounds per game in those two games, as the Ducks swept both Washington teams. The win over the Huskies was particularly important, given the talent and record of UW. The second game of the week, however, was more impressive for Singler.

A true leader, he buckled down on defense when the Cougars were trying to take the game and was phenomenal in shutting them down. He was fierce on the boards and made the right shots to help his team notch another critical W at this stage in the season.

The 9-4 Oregon Ducks have their first player with a Player of the Week award this season, and this is the first POW award for E.J. Singler in his career. That seems hard to believe, because Singler now leads the team with a 20.6 PER after this week’s performance (+1.9 PER). Devoe Joseph has a PER of 20.5, and Singler is also tied with the sharp-shooting Garrett Sim for the team lead in win shares with 3.3 wins.

Singler is the team’s second most efficient offensive player and defensive player, as he averages 1.19 points per possession while allowing 1.01 PPP. E.J. Singler is money from the free throw line (89.4%) and has a 61.0 TS%. There is no doubt that Singler deserved this award, and he has finally been given his due credit. Just this past week, Singler out-dueled five players who have won the player of the week award this season: Brock Motum, Tony Wroten, C.J. Wilcox, Faisal Aden, and Terrence Ross. Watch this kid play, you’ll be impressed with the fire and intensity he plays with. That’s not even mentioning the talent that combines with his leadership.
