Ducks Tra Carson will transfer

Oregon Ducks running back Tra Carson is looking to transfer after just one year with the team. As a true freshman, Carson received 45 carries and turned them into 254 yards for an average of 5.6 yards per carry. He also had one one-yard rushing touchdown in a game against Colorado for his only TD of the year.

This isn’t a case of a player looking to move to another team because of a lack of carries, as Tra Carson was in-line for more touches with the departure of LaMichael James. He would have received over 50 carries and showed plenty of promise last season. He rushed for over 80 yards twice last season when given the opportunity to play. It seems more like Tra Carson wants a change of scenery, doesn’t like the school itself, or feels uncomfortable in some way. If you feel like you can extrapolate emotions from a tweet, then check this one out from Carson.

Tra Carson is the third running back from Texas to recently leave the Oregon Ducks, and it should be noted that he went to the same high school as James. Without Carson, expect incoming recruit Byron Marshall to receive the touches that would have been given to the transferring running back. Like Carson, Marshall is a big back who is expected to complement the sizable group of quick, elusive backs on the Ducks.

I wish Tra Carson the best of luck in the future, and I hope he finds what he is looking for at whichever university he chooses from. He will be missed in Eugene, but it wasn’t a good fit for him. The Ducks can cope without the loss of a running back, because they have some top recruits coming in at the position. Tra Carson has potential and is a talented player, and I hope he gets to show that talent next season. History shows that transferring sometimes helps more than it hurts, but Carson is a bruising back who has the ability to become one of the better hard-nosed backs in the country. Provided, he gets the opportunity to do so.

This transfer had nothing to do with playing time, because nearly 50 carries is a high amount for a freshman. The best guess is that Carson never settled into his new environment in Eugene and is best off playing somewhere else. A reunion in the state of Texas? Maybe. Whatever the case, Tra Carson is going to show that he is a talented football player. I’m sure of it.
