C.J. Leslie leading N.C. State over Georgetown

The N.C. State Wolfpack have a slim 30-27 lead over the Georgetown Hoyas, who are a Big East powerhouse and a No. 3 seed. The Wolfpack already had a nice first round upset, and Mark Gottfried’s 11th seeded team could be headed for another bigger one. Some more N.C. State notes on the game before the second half. Maybe, at the end of the game, we’ll see N.C. State in a hotel in St. Louis.

1. C.J. Leslie is a future NBA first-rounder with his length, quickness, and athleticism. He is the face of the spoilers and has added 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block even in a poor shooting performance.

2. N.C. State has shot just 7-14 from the line and still have the lead, with the other C.J., C.J. Williams, leading the way with 9 points on 3-6 shooting.

3. Star Scott Wood has been held to just 4 points at the half.

4. Richard Howell has a 6-5 line so far, but the story has been Georgetown’s poor offense shining through even in the midst of a big defensive game. Both teams thrive on scrappiness and tough defense, but it looks like N.C. State is out-scrapping their Big East counterparts.

5. Jason Clark has been a disappointment for the Hoyas and is just 1-5 from the floor and 1-4 from three. The Hoyas already have 10 TOs, with Clark contributing two turnovers to the total.

6. Forward Hollis Thompson has been the “star” for Georgetown thus far with just 6 points on 2-4 shooting. N.C. State is killing Georgetown on the offensive glass 9-2. It looks like the 4.5 point underdogs could be off to an upset, but it’s time for Clark and Georgetown to get things together in the second half. This sure as heck is going to be fun to watch.
