Stephen Zimmerman Recruiting Update

Stephen Zimmerman will be one of the top 100 recruits in the 2015 Recruiting Class, and the freshman in high school is already receiving a high amount of interest from schools across the country. As recently as last month, Zimmerman visited Arizona and attended their game against UCLA. Both schools are interested in Stephen Zimmerman, with Sean Miller and the Wildcats especially aggressive in going after the four-star center.

Left Coast Recruiting is FanSided’s college basketball recruiting site, and their editor Jason McCleary had a piece on Stephen Zimmerman in November that came with some notable quotes.

“Coaches have told me I need to be more aggressive and physical and not so “nice” on the court. Other than that, most coaches have said I am ahead of the learning curve and everything else will work out.”

“I don’t have a favorite school right now.  It’s still way too early.”

Zimmerman comes off as an intelligent kid, and he doesn’t even carry around a cell phone; he does not want coaches to call him too often. The Las Vegas recruit also doesn’t have a favorite right now, which is smart because many young recruits get swayed too much by a big school or a dream school. It is early, and Zimmerman is rightfully keeping his options open.

The 6’9″, 210 pound recruit is an interesting big man prospect, because he can actually knock down threes and is extremely quick. He’s like Pau Gasol on the put-backs, which means that his quickness allows him to get those buckets. Stephen Zimmerman thrives in transition and in the open court and has some great passing moves for a center. While he needs some strength and will most likely end up as a power forward, Zimmerman is a top recruit with a nice shooting touch that is his best attribute.

Right now, the big boys like UConn and Kansas have sent him offers in addition to UA and UCLA. Oregon and Oregon State have also submitted offers, which is great news for Ducks fans; we’re in the mix for a top recruit in 2015. And seriously, it’s worth the rate. He needs to get stronger and better on defense, but this guy is an offensive mismatch for defenses just waiting to happen at the college level. Although it is not listed on some recruiting sites, UNLV has also offered the in-state prospect.
