No. 16 Oregon baseball (15-6) takes a break from conference play with a two-game trip to San Marcos, Texas to face Southland foe Texas State (14-9). The Ducks will take on the Bobcats today at 6:30 CDT at Bobcat Ballpark taking advantage of spring break. This is the first meeting between the two schools in baseball which given the location of the schools isn’t a big surprise.

Today the pitching match-up will be sophomore Jeff Gold (3-0) for the Ducks facing freshman Taylor Black (1-0) of the Bobcats. Over the weekend Oregon took two-of-three against Utah in Eugene where Texas State was swept at Sam Houston State.

Here is a little background information on Texas State for you which I can share having worked the past two years at fellow Southland Conference member Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The Bobcats have won the conference title the last three years. They have the 10th best ERA (2.61) in the country, and are 24th in strikeouts per nine innings pitched (8.4).

The Bobcats are led by Ty Harrington who is in his 13th season in San Marcos and has won at least 29 games each season. He’s taken his program to the tournament three times (2000, 2009 and 2011), has been named conference coach of the year twice and is the school’s all-time leader in wins (430-306).

Wednesday final game will be at noon central and the pitching match-ups haven’t been determined yet. Thanks to both schools game notes for compiling some of the information used in this article.
