The #11 Oregon Ducks softball team advanced to the Women’s College World Series after eliminating the #6 Texas Longhorns in the Austin Super Regional.  This will be the second appearance for Oregon in the World Series.  The Ducks who are 44-16 on the year will meet fellow Pac-12 member and defending national champion Arizona State in the opening round of the World Series.

In the opener of the three game series which began on Friday, Oregon lost to Texas by a score of 4-2.  Texas scored the first four runs of the game before the Ducks fought back with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.  The team wasn’t able to get a big hit as they left nine runners on base.

The Ducks swept Texas on Saturday winning the first game 5-4 and the second game 10-6.  Junior Jessica Moore pitched every inning on Saturday to lead the team into the finals.  Moore is currently 32-13 on the season after pitching in all three games over the weekend.

Junior Kaylan Howard got the game winning sacrifice fly in the eighth inning of the first game to give the Ducks the win.  In the deciding game the Ducks scored six runs in the second inning and added four in the fourth inning to run away from the favored Longhorns.

Oregon will be joined in the World Series by Alabama, Arizona State, California, Oklahoma, Tennessee and South Florida.  The last remaining team to enter the World Series will be the winner of the LSU and Missouri game.

The Women’s College World Series is a double-elimination tournament that will be held in Oklahoma City and run from May 31st through June 6th.

Oregon and Arizona State met twice in the regular season with both games being played on March 31st.  Oregon won the first game 3-0 with Jessica Moore throwing a shutout.  The second game was won by Arizona State by a score of 7-4.  The teams were supposed to play a third game but it was cancelled on April 1st.
