Football Recruiting: Vernon Hargreaves Update

It’s been a little slow on the recruiting end for Oregon lately. Despite the large volume of offers from high quality schools for the top cornerback prospect, it remains surprising that the Ducks have yet to give an offer to someone that has a high interest in the program.

Vernon Hargreaves III had an unofficial visit with the Vanderbilt Commodores today. Via 247Sports’ SEC twitter (@247_SEC):

It’s just another of a full tour of schools that Hargreaves will be visiting that won’t count in his five official visits. In the past eight days (and since The Opening) he has visited Tennessee, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Stanford, and Oregon.

According to 247Sports, USC is the “warmest” interest for the 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback from Florida. They have offered, and other top offers include three of the teams h’e s recently visited (the Commodores, Buckeyes, and Fighting Irish), Alabama, Florida, Louisville, LSU, and South Florida.

To this day, Oregon remains the only elevated interest that has yet to offer the five-star athlete. Many major recruiting services have him as the top cornerback in the nation for 2013; Rivals has him at number two (Kendall Fuller) and ninth as a national ranking.

247Sports has him sixth nationally and ESPN has him as the highest overall at fourth.

The FanSided 150 has him as the third best cornerback and ranked 14th nationally, generally lower than the average of all recruiting services.
