2012 London Olympics: Centrowitz Narrowly Misses Medal

Matthew Centrowitz placed fourth overall in the men’s 1,500m tonight missing a bronze medal by .04 seconds.  Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria won the gold, Leonel Manzano of the United States got the silver and the bronze medal went to Abdalaati Iguider of Morocco.  Iguider’s time was 3:35.13 while Centrowitz came in at 3:35.17.

There will be four former Oregon Ducks competing tomorrow.  On the men’s side Ashton Eaton will be participating in four events as part of the Decathlon.  Eaton will be in the 100m, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump and 400m.  He is included in the third heat.  Eaton will also be competing in events for the Decathlon on Thursday.

Galen Rupp will be looking for his second medal of the Olympics as he runs in the 5,000m.  Rupp is in the second heat for this event.  Rupp won the silver medal in the 10,000m over the weekend.  The finals of the 5,000m are scheduled for Saturday.

Cyrus Hostetler begins the qualifying round of the Javelin throw tomorrow.  There are 44 athletes participating in this event with the finals set for Saturday.  Hostetler is the only American in Group A of the competition.

Zoe Buckman is the only woman athlete from the University of Oregon in action tomorrow.  Buckman is representing Australia in the 1,500m.  Buckman advanced to the Semifinals after posting a time of 4:07.83 in the qualifying round on Monday.  She will be in the second heat tomorrow.  The finals will be on Friday.
