Oregon Ducks Football: Scouting California's Offense

The offense has featured a lot of highs and lows this season. Between putting up four touchdowns and 512 yards against Ohio State and just 250 yards against USC in back-to-back games, Oregon’s defensive showing a week ago may give fans a reason to be cute. They may not have the weapons to take advantage.

OFFENSIVE BREAKDOWN:

  • Scoring offense: ninth in conference, 88th overall
  • Rushing offense: fifth in conference, 47th overall
  • Passing offense: seventh in conference, 74th overall

Quarteback Zach Maynard, wide receiver Keenan Allen, and offensive lineman Matt Summers-Gavin, and potential leading receiver Bryce Treggs, could all be out of the game this Saturday.

Maynard has played in all 10 games this season. It’s been a rather disappointing senior campain with just above 60 percent passing efficiency and just two more touchdowns than interceptions with a 12-10 ratio. But now the Golden Bears could be at a real disadvantage with junior Allan Bridgford making a start with only 4-16 passing in four games.

It’s even more troublesome without Allen, who has 737 yards with six touchdowns on 61 catches, doesn’t see some action to help California. They may not rank highly when passing, but this team will become completely one-sided without him.

They body of work for the offense will likely come between C.J. Anderson and isi Sofele, both senior running backs who combine for 1,192 yards and six touchdowns on 217 carries.

With a stronger rush defense than pass defense for the Ducks, it could be a very long day for California on the offensive end.
