Oregon Softball: Hawkins Helps Ducks with Three Wins over Stanford, Earns Pac 12 Pitcher of the Week Honors

Oregon (26-4, 3-0 Pac 12) welcomed #15 Stanford (22-8, 0-3) to town to start Pac 12 Play and the Ducks sent them away without a win. Freshman Starting Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins pitched and won all three games vs Stanford this weekend and was named Pac 12 Pitcher of the Week, the fifth Duck to pick up multiple honors.

Oregon took Game 1 of the three game series 4-3 on Saturday with Senior Outfielder Sam Pappas hitting a two out double in the seventh inning, knocking in her second game winning RBI of the season. Senior Jessica Moore struggled giving up three earned runs. Freshman Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins entered the game in the 5th and shut things down. She retired 8 of 9 by strikeout.

Sunday’s Game 2 was the first Softball game on the Pac 12 Network and the Ducks did not disappoint, again Jessica Moore started the game for Oregon, and gave up two unearned runs. Hawkins again came in to relieve Moore and was lights out striking out six and allowing one hit in three innings. Offensively the Ducks woke up in the sixth as pinch hitter Freshman Janelle Lindvall doubled which allowed for a the game winning RBI for Oregon. Lindvall is the 11th Duck to collect a game winning RBI this season and the third Freshman.

For the series finale, Oregon flipped the script for Starting Pitcher. Cheridan Hawkins got the nod and went 5 innings giving up four hits and three earned runs. Jessica Moore came in for the final two innings giving up no hits and striking out four. It was Hawkins third win of the weekend.

On offense First Baseman Kailee Cuico led the charge with a home run, and 3 RBI’s. Centerfielder Janie Takeda also had two hits with a run scored in the Ducks 10-3 win in the finale.

Oregon is now in a tie for first place in the Pac 12 with California(26-3, 3-0 Pac 12).

Oregon Softball now hits the road to face Washington(23-8, 1-1 Pac 12) for a three game set starting on Thursday(5pm), Friday(4pm), and Saturday(12pm).
