Former Oregon Duck Ashton Eaton Currently 2nd in Decathalon at USA Track and Field Championships

It’s the weekend of the USA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines Iowa and a familiar name is near the top of the Decathalon leader board. Olympic Gold Medalist and former Oregon Duck Ashton Eaton is in second place overall.

Here is a look at his first five events:

100 Meter Dash : 10.48 seconds (1st place)

Long Jump: 7.59m, 24-11 (skipped his third attempt) (2nd place)

Shotput: 15.00 49 2 1/2 (3rd place)

High Jump: 1.90 6 2 3/4 (skipped his third attept) (12th place)

400 Meter Dash: 46.89 (1st place)

Eaton’s coach Harry Marra said this is more of a tuneup for Eaton:

"“Just going thru motions in this meet. No sense risking anything.”"

The Decathalon concludes Saturday. Eaton needs to finish in the top 3 to make Team USA for the IAAF World Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Moscow in August.

He is currently in second place behind former Arkansas Razorback Gunner Nixon who is currently unattached.
