Phil Steele: Voters Pick Oregon Ducks to Go 8-0 in Pac 12

Each year Phil Steele turns to his following to predict the outcome for the upcoming season. He recently released his second update on Conference Polling and the Pac 12 Shapes up fairly nicely for the Ducks.

Oregon, according to Steele and his cohort, are set to go 8-0 in Conference. 54 percent of voters chose Oregon over Stanford on the Farm, and 82 percent chose the Ducks over Washington in Seatttle. Those two game were the closest. Every other Pac 12 game had Oregon winning – most by 90 percent of the vote or more. Cal, 99 percent, Washington State, 99 percent, UCLA, 97 percent, Utah, 99 percent, at Arizona, 97 percent and hosting the Civil War with Oregon State, 91 percent.

The Ducks are picked to go 9-0 in Conference, 2nd place goes to Stanford with their only loss to the Ducks at 8-1, Oregon State is third at 5-4.

In the South many are seeing USC have a solid season and taking the South Division losing to only Stanford(which would put Oregon and USC in the Championship game.) UCLA and Arizona State tied 2nd with 6-3 records.

Since the breakdown is by conference I couldn’t help but look at the SEC. Georgia and Alabama are seen as undefeated at 8-0. In the East, South Carolina(7-1) and Florida 5-3 are 2nd and 3rd. Tennesee, an Oregon opponent is fourth with a 3-5 record in conference.

Texas A&M is chosen to finish with a 6-2 record according to Steele’s voters with losses to Alabama and LSU.

The games start for real on August 31st – for Oregon anyway as the Ducks host Nicholls State at Autzen. (1pm, Fox Sports 1)
