It wasn’t too long ago that Oregon and Dontre Wilson seemed to be a perfect fit, but with the possibility of looming sanctions at the time in an investigation that seemed to go on forever and Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly making the jump to the NFL, Wilson decommited from the Ducks and signed with Ohio State.
In his words he seems to be comfortable with Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer, as well as his teammates.
All that’s left to do is live up to the hype.
-Ohio State Freshman Running Back Dontre Wilson.
He was recruiting to the Ducks for his speed, which he now takes into Big Ten Country.
Wilson brings some serious speed to the table – he’s been clocked at a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash – and can provide a spark at any point when put in the type of offense that Ohio State runs. In his senior season, Wilson rushed for 1,895 yards on 294 carries with 37 rushing touchdowns. Proving his versatility, Wilson also contributed in the vertical passing game, hauling in 37 receptions for 750 yards and adding five more touchdowns.
Brandon Castel from the O-Zone.net says Wilson is drawing comparisons to Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks.
“When Urban Meyer was recruiting me he said that if I was to come here, that would be the role that I would play.”
Wilson on the Percy Harvin comparisons.
The Big 10 and Pac 12 traditionally meet in the Rose Bowl and that would be an intriguing matchup for Duck Fans. Of course Ohio State will face off against Oregon in 2020 and 2021 but a matchup against Dontre Wilson and the Buckeyes would be an entertaining one.
