Last season Rich Ellerson’s Army Black Knights went 2-10, the record is a bit misleading as they lost a handful of games by a touchdown or less. Army will look to bounce back against a fairly manageable schedule compared to the 2012 challenges faced.

The Black Knights are one of the few true triple-option teams in the country and their stats show as much having two 1,000 yard rushers and one with 800 yards. Senior Raymond Maples returns off a year which he ran for 1,270 yards with two scores. Junior Larry Dixon joins him in the backfield with his 840 yards plus six TD’s.

Sophomore A.J. Schurr is slated to start the season at quarterback, a season ago he had 130 yards passing with two touchdowns to no interceptions. As stated his job wasn’t to throw as he completed just 18 passes completing eight, his rushing total was 51.

On defense Army brings back their top three tacklers with junior free safeties Geoffery Bacon, Brandon Fusilier-Jefferies and rover Alex Meier. Bacon was the leading tackler with 136, one sack, 3.5 tackles for loss and an interception. Fulsilier-Jefferies had 88 tackles with Meier recording 71.

Army will return most of the defense which should be better than it was a season ago being a year older. As a team eight starters back with only two seniors listed as starters, 15 total starters are back in addition to 60 letter winners.

The Black Knights host the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, September 14 at 9 am which can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
