It was announced just before kickoff that this was the 90th consecutive sellout at Autzen Stadium and the looks of the crowd they were ready for some football. This was a big game for one Duck in particular – De’Anthony Thomas. In the first half he broke 4,000 all purpose yards for his career and touched the ball 11 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Not a bad days work.
Marcus Mariota showed now rust from the Fiesta Bowl and had a beautiful touch pass for 41 yards to Josh Huff, which led to the second touchdown on the day for De’Anthony Thomas.
Toward the end for the first quarter it got interesting with Oregon on Defense and Terrance Mitchell as he ‘appeared’ to target the head area of sliding Nicholls Quarterback Beaux Hebert. With all the attention before the season started for ‘targeting’ penalties and ejections for the players who were the agressors (I personally think that safety of the players should be looked at more), Mitchell was ejected for the rest of the game vs Nicholls.
At the seven minute mark of the second quarter Mariota had another nice pass to Huff – this time yards – two plays later he scampered46 yards for six. The Ducks next possession started at the Nicholls 45 and went no where. The Colonels attempted a 50 yard field goal with 0:00.3 left on the clock – it was no good.
For the half both Marcus Mariota and De’Anthony Thomas have two touchdowns a piece. Oregon has racked up 367 yards of Offense to Nicholls 118.
