When Cal comes to town on Saturday their Head Coach Sonny Dykes will bring his playbook with likely more plays through the air than on the ground. In his system Freshman Quarterback Jared Goff is thriving and currently leads the nation averaging 473 yards per game. Don’t let their record fool you. Cal may be 1-2, but one of the teams they faced was Ohio State and now they head to face the #2 Ducks – their second Top 5 opponent this year.

Cal Bear fans will likely need to be patient to see the results.

"(As a football team)I think what you have to do is get better everyday. Work hard, continue to have a good attitude, improve…just keep building. We have a very challenging schedule. We have to hang in there and keep getting better."

Dykes spoke of his family, his time in Louisiana building his offensive scheme at Louisiana Tech and he and the Golden Bears have scheduled some solid competition this year with Northwestern and Ohio State from the Big 10, both were losses.

"We have to be smart. Pac 12 has nine conference games. It’s as competitive league as there is in the country. You’ve gotta stay healthy and get some wins along the way."

When it comes to Quarterbacks right now Cal QB Jared Goff is playing to his potential.

"There’s a lot of factors that contribute to his success early. Goff was very well coached in high school. We had an open competition. He came in. He’s mature and level headed."

Cal has a bright spot for the future in its youth.

"We’re very young on offense. We have seven Freshman or Sophomore starters. We have to keep getting better."

Football is a game of seconds and several teams are now trying to imitate Oregon’s fast paced Offense. Cal is doing it almost too well with over 100 plays called against Northwestern.

"We try to play fast and with tempo. Our kids have picked it up pretty quickly. We have to make first downs move the chains and sustain some drives. We’ve gotten some big plays but we have to get better in the red zone."

Finally Dykes spoke of injuries on the Defensive side of the ball this year and a lot of young players will have to step up and face the #2 team in the country.

"Oregon tests you in so many different ways. They spread the field, create one on one matchups. They are a very difficult offense to stop and our young defense will have to play a lot better."

Cal and Oregon take the field on Saturday Night it was may end up being a rain….er..misty. By the time the game is started it could be a Heavy Mist inside Autzen Stadium. (7:30pm PT, Pac 12 Networks)
