It was a rather sloppy start for both teams with Oregon getting the better of Cal’s mistakes. In the first three minutes of the game there were four fumbles as no one could hold onto the ball. We knew the rain was coming and DID it. It was very monsoon like with swirling winds and sideways rain for about 15 minutes.  The big news of the first half was the injury to Oregon Running Back De’Anthony Thomas. He took the opening kickoff back 27 yards, then left with what appeared to be a ‘tweaked’ ankle. He has yet to return.

Oregon is clearly showing they are the better team in this game. Cal Bears Freshman Quarterback Jared Goff was 3 for 7 for 11 yards in the first quarter. In part because of the weather. The Bears rushed for less than 26 yards in the first quarter of play. On the other side of the ball Oregon exploded with Quarterback Marcus Mariota not letting weather get in the way throwing for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Running Back Byron Marshall is also over 100 yards in the first half. Freshman Running Back Thomas Tyner is getting in some time with the first team as well.

In the first half Oregon Cornerback Ifo Ekpre Olomu intercepted a pass in the endzone for his first pick of 2013.
