Former Oregon Duck and current Olympic Gold Medal Decathalon Champion Ashton Eaton has made the list of nominees for the 2013 Jessee Owens Athlete of the Year Award. He is joined on the ballot by another former Duck Nick Symmonds. Both former Ducks played a big part on the 2012 Olympic Trials in Eugene. Eaton’s performance in less than perfect weather the first few days of the Trials were the story of the event. He took the momentum to London where he took gold in the Decathalon.
Symmonds also had success at the Olympic Trials. He currently holds the American record in the 800 meters at 1:43.03 and has five runnings that are sub 1:44. The former Duck recently took second place in the 800 meters in the Brussels Diamond League Meet.
