The four game series in Hawaii last week was won by pitching, of course hitting helps too and the Ducks got a solid dose from Tyler Baumgartner on Friday night in Game 1 of a three game series at Loyola Marymount. The Senior Outfielder went 3 for 4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. he Ducks had eight doubles in the game. One player who stepped in after spending a good part of last season injured was Outfielder Kyle Garlick who showed off some offense of his own going 2-4 with a double, two RBI’s and a run scored. The game was a close until the eighth inning when Oregon broke the flood gates open with eight runs.

On the mound it was another solid effort by Starting Junior Tommy Thorpe who gave up two runs on eight hits through seven innings of work. He struck out six. Oregon now sends Freshman Matt Krook to the mound for Saturday’s game. It’s a 1pm start. Krook had a rough start last weekend against Hawaii and may have a new nickname soon. The Wild Thing threw seven wild pitches against the Rainbow Warriors, tying the NCAA record, but the Ducks ultimately won the game. One can hope he settles down for his second start in an Oregon uniform.

The three game set wraps on Sunday before Oregon kicks off a very long homestand at PK Park on Tuesday(February 25th) against Portland.
