For the Oregon Baseball team this weekend was an opportunity to continue their dominance over a team from last season. The Ducks took to the field against .Ohio State and Starting Pitcher Tommy Thorpe was dominant in Game 1. After giving up six runs last week he threw seven innings giving up two hits and striking out a career high ten Buckeyes. His effort also extended a scoreless inning streak over the team from Big 10 Country to 30 innings going back to last seasons series in Columbus. The Ducks’ Offense also came to play.

Kyle Garlick led the team with a triple and a score in a seven run fourth inning. Overall he was 2-4 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Oregon won 8-2. The second game of the series was similar to start, dominant pitching by the Ducks, but fell apart in the ninth inning.

Oregon Starter Matt Krook was on the mound Saturday evening at PK Park. He threw pretty well going 5 1/3 innings with one hit and one run. The Freshman struck out ten, but walked six Buckeyes. Aaron Payne was 3-4 in the game but the Oregon bullpen fell apart as Garrett Cleavinger and Jake Reed gave up four runs in the ninth inning. It was Oregon’s first shutout loss at home this season and the first since April of last year against UCLA at PK Park.

Oregon and Ohio State will play the rubber game of the three game series Sunday at noon. The Ducks will send Senior Jeff Gold to the mound.
