Oregon Baseball: Two More Ducks Make Mid-Season Watch Lists

The Oregon Baseball team takes on Washington State at PK Park in the finale of a three game series//KPNWSports

Following the announcement that Oregon Ducks Closer Jake Reed was named to the Stopper of the Year Watch List earlier this week, two of his teammates are also named to lists for season awards. Oregon Starting Pitcher Jeff Gold, who takes a 9-0 record into the series with Oregon State this weekend is under consideration for National Pitcher of the Year and Freshman Shortstop Mark Karaviotis has been recognized and added to the watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award, given to the best shortstop of the year.

Gold is 9-0 on the season with a 2.45 ERA. He is ranked second in the country in wins and has struck out 45 batters is 67 1/3 innings of work this season. The Senior has walked just five batters. The right hander needs one move victory to tie the Oregon Ducks career record of 23 wins in a season. Gold currently leads the Pac-12 Conference in wins with 12. His teammate Mark Karaviotis, as a Freshman at Shortstop has made quite an impact early in his career at the position.

Karaviotis has started thirty one straight games for the Oregon Ducks this season and has a .970 fielding percentage entering this weekend’s series with Oregon State. He is batting .263 with 15 RBI’s to go along with two doubles and two triples in 2014. The Freshman from Maui leads the Oregon Ducks with nine sacrifice bunts. Oregon hits the road this weekend to take on Oregon State in the Civil War Series.

All three games this weekend are televised. Friday’s game is at 7pm PT(Pac-12 Networks), Saturday is set for 3pm PT(Pac-12 Networks) and the Sunday finale at 1pm(ESPNU).
