Oregon Baseball takes on Arizona at PK Park, KPNWSports

The Oregon Ducks Baseball Team has tried to figure out the riddle that is the top team in the country now, the Oregon State Beavers. Following the extra innings loss on Tuesday in non-conference play George Horton’s team is still scratching their heads and are 0-4 against the team from Corvallis this season. Entering the game Oregon was on a three game winning streak, as they were a few weeks ago – but then it was a nine game winning streak before playing OSU away from PK Park, the Oregon Ducks were swept out of Corvallis. Oregon would also see a sixteen game home winning streak at PK Park come to an end.

Tuesday night the two teams met again, this time at PK Park and the number two team in the country, according to Baseball America found a way to pull out the win over the home team in extra innings, 4-3 as the Oregon Ducks attempted several comebacks that would fail to deliver. Stephen Nagosek started for Oregon and threw three innings striking out six and allowing one run. In the fourth inning the game was tied 3-3. It was the bullpen in Corvallis, mainly the arm of Garrett Cleavinger that cost Oregon a Saturday win in Corvallis a few weeks ago allowing four hits in the closing innings. His arm would again be a factor on Tuesday.

Cleavinger came in with two on and one out in the seventh inning and retired the side. He pitched the eighth inning as well. If the Oregon Ducks had found a way to cross home plate in the bottom of the seventh or eighth he could have been named the winning pitcher, but it was deadlocked at three through twelve innings before the Oregon State Beavers won it in the top of the inning.

For the Oregon offense Shaun Chase, this week’s Pac-12 Player of the Week had a one out double to help pace the Ducks.

Oregon now heads north for one game against Portland on Wednesday before a three game series at Arizona State this weekend.
