The Oregon Ducks Host Utah Valley, Albany and Wisconsin This Weekend in the First Round of the NCAA Softball Tournament

Oregon hosted Utah Valley in a Doubleheader on Tuesday April 29th//KPNWSports

A new season begins this afternoon for the Oregon Ducks Softball Team as the post season road falls beneath their feet. Mike White’s team has been dominant and have held the number one spot in the nation for the last five weeks and are also the top overall seed in the field for the 2014 NCAA Softball Tournament. The Oregon Ducks have done it with dominance on the mound, and on the bases and face a team they handled comfortably just a few weeks ago in Utah Valley.

It was a midweek doubleheader in April where Oregon took both games of a short series, however Utah Valley travelled to Eugene without several key players of their team that had school work to tend to. Turn the page to Friday and I’m sure they will have a full compliment of players, the question is will it make a difference? The record should tell the tale. Utah Valley won just 14 games and lost 40 in the regular season – yes, you read that correctly. They beat top seed New Mexico State in their Conference Tourney to get here.

On the other hand the Oregon Ducks took a clearly different path going 49-7-1 this season, along with 20-3-1 in the Pac-12 Conference and 14-2-1 at Howe Field. The tie came in a series earlier this month against then number three Arizona State. Oregon split the series 1-1, along with the tie game.

The first round series is not slated for television, but can be seen via the University of Oregon link. Game one this afternoon starting at 2pm PT has Albany facing Wisconsin. Oregon and Utah Valley has first pitch set for 5pm PT. The series is double elimination for everyone involved. (all games should be available via the link above)
