The Oregon Ducks Baseball Recruiting Class for the upcoming season may take a serious hit. One of the top prospects in the country, Catcher/Third Baseman Alex Jackson is expected to join the Oregon Ducks, but yesterday, the first day of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft the possible future Oregon Duck was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the first round. The young man will now have a decisionto make. Come play for Oregon and the best fans in the country, or chase the money and sign a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners.

Unlike College Football where the decision to enter the draft means your school career is over, College Baseball is different. Last season Oregon Starter Matt Krook was drafted in the top twenty five by the Miami Marlins, an injury at the time allowed his decision to be an easy one, he came to play for the Oregon Ducks. Will Jackson make the same decision? He could be an immediate impact player for Oregon, who has Shawn Chase for another year at the Catcher position, if he decides to remain with the team.

Expect other Oregon players to be drafted today and over the weekend. I expect to see Jeff Gold and Aaron Payne among those being drafted in the 2014 MLB Draft.
