Two weekends ago Oregon Senior Laura Roesler won the 800 meters in just over 2:00. putting in a time of 2:02. In the final race of the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field she ran a key leg in the 4×400 meters to close the event and managed to pull the Oregon Ducks into third place, but that is as far as they would get in the event to finish in third place overall on their home turf. Roesler said following the meet that a shot at Rio was possible in 2016 and her focus at the time was on graduation.
Two weeks later she found her way to the US Track and Field Championships and was able to pull off the performance of her career as an Oregon Ducks Track and Field athlete. She ran the first sun two minute 800 meters race in her career finishing in 1:59.04, however the finish put her in second place behind Ajee Wilson of Adidas. It was a special moment for Roesler. She now becomes the second fastest to run the event at the University of Oregon and the fourth fastest collegian all time in the history of the 800 meters. Roesler will now focus on the future. She has already said a shot at Rio is possible in 2016. We’ll have to wait and see and smile knowing she may not be done yet on the track at Hayward Field.
