Oregon Volleyball Starts 2014 Season Just Outside AVCA Top 25

The Oregon Ducks sit just outside the AVCA Preseason Top Twenty Five Poll with 115 votes. Fellow Pac-12 school Arizona has 129 and will begin the 2014 ranked twenty fifth. Other Pac-12 teams in the poll include a bunch at three four and five with Stanford, Washington and USC jumbled together in the Top Ten. Oregon is coming off a season in 2013 where they finished in fourth place in the Pac-12 Conference. Earlier this month the team was chosen by the media to finish fifth in the Conference for 2014.

The Oregon Ducks Volleyball team will have opportunity early to improve their ranking chance as they will face Michigan State early in the season at home(the Spartans are ranked seventeenth in the first AVCA poll of the year.) The Oregon Ducks will host Ohio State in the Oregon Invitational on Friday, August 29th and will also see the Spartans  and Michigan Wolverines at Matthew Knight Arena on Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th respectively.

The Oregon Volleyball team finished 2013 with a 20-12 record making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament losing to Nebraska in three sets. The Ducks were ranked twenty-fifth at the end of the year. Oregon has some key returnees including Senior Outside Hitter Liz Brenner, Sophomore Amanda Benson, and Junior Outside Hitter Martenne Bettendorf.
