PAC-12 Football Weekend Recap Week 2

It was a successful weekend for PAC-12 schools with Oregon carrying the banner and convincingly defeating Michigan State at Autzen Stadium. In addition the conference lost one non-conference match-up, however conversation on USC AD Pat Haden continues to be discussed.

Thursday, September 4 –

Arizona Wildcats (2-0) 26 @ UTSA Roadrunners (1-1) 23: Arizona got all they wanted in San Antonio against UTSA. Leading 20-16 at half the Wildcats were outscored 7-6, the Roadrunners also missed a field goal that would’ve tied the score up. Nick Wilson carried it 30 times for 174 yards with a score while Anu Solomon was 17-of-31 for 231 yards with a passing TD he also had 11 yards. ‘Zona intercepted Tucker Carter late to seal the win. Next up for Arizona is a home game against Nevada (2-0) at 8 pm/PAC-12 Network

Friday, September 5 –

Washington State Cougars (0-2) 13 @ Nevada Wolfpack (2-0) 24: Washington State outgained Nevada 427 to 324 in yards. The Cougars missed two field goals in addition to a couple turnovers. Connor Halliday threw it 57 times for 389 yards and while he had a touchdown pass he did get picked twice. Stopping Nevada’s QB Cody Fajardo threw for 110 yards while adding 100 more rushing. Next up for Washington State is Portland State (1-1) in Pullman at 5 pm/PAC-12 Network

Saturday, September 6 –

Colorado Buffaloes (1-1) 41 @ Massachusetts Minutemen (0-2) 38: Colorado trailed 21-20 at half to UMass before outscoring them 21-17 in the second half. Sefo Liufau threw for 318 yards with three passing TD’s Nelson Spruce caught 10 passes for 145 yards with two scores helping lead the Buffs to their first victory. Next up for Colorado is their home opener in Boulder against 16 Arizona State (2-0) at 7 pm/ESPNU

14 Southern California Trojans (2-0, 1-0 PAC-12) 13 @ 13 Stanford Cardinal (1-1, 0-1 PAC-12) 10: Jordan Williamson was 1-for-3 kicking field goals while Stanford lost the turnover battle 2-0. USC forced a big fumble of Kevin Hogan when the Cardinal was driving for the tying or winning score. This game will be remembered more for Trojans AD Pat Haden coming down to the field. Southern Cal’s RB Javious Allen carried 23 times for 154 yards. Stanford’s Ty Montgomer has 83 yards receiving, 69 on kick returns and 44 on punt returns. Next up for Southern California is a trip to Boston College (1-1) at 5 pm/ESPN. Stanford will host Army (1-0) at 2 pm/PAC-12 Network.

Sacramento State Hornets (1-1) 14 @ California Golden Bears (2-0) 55: Cal lead 28-0 after the first quarter and never looked back against their FCS opponent. Sonny Dykes offense put up 581 yards as they improved to 2-0 this season surpassing last season’s one win campaign. Jared Goff was 17-of-22 with four TD passes. Daniel Lasco carried it nine times for 94 yards with a score. Next up for California is a conference opening trip to Tucson against Arizona (2-0) on September 20 at 7 pm/PAC-12 Network

Eastern Washington Eagles (2-1) 52 @ Washington Huskies (2-0) 59: Washington raced out to a 21-0 lead early before hanging on for a seven point win. The teams combined for over 1,000 with EWU putting up 573 to UDubs 536. Lavon Coleman ran it 17 times for 118 yards while Cyler Miles threw for 180 yards. Vernon Adams Jr. let up the Huskies defense for 475 yards with seven touchdown passes. Trailing 45-44 after three the Dawgs scored 15 straight points and held on for the win. Next up Washington welcomes Illinois (2-0) to Seattle for a 1 pm kickoff on FOX

Fresno State Bulldogs (0-2) 27 @ Utah Utes (2-0) 59: For the second straight week Fresno State gave up 50 plus points to a PAC-12 offense. Utah led 17-0 after one and led 31-7 at half. Travis Wilson passed for 181 yards with five touchdown passes. Dres Anderson and Kenneth Scott each caught two TD’s each in the route. Utah will travel to Ann Arbor on September 20 to face Michigan (1-1) at 12:30 pm/ABC or ESPN2

7 Michigan State (1-1) 27 @ 3 Oregon Ducks (2-0) 46: Oregon outgained Michigan State 491 to 466 on offense which isn’t the norm for the Spartans defense. It was the Ducks defense that got a lot of attention after allowing 24 points in the second quarter they held MSU to just three second half points. Oregon scored the game’s final 28 points in this big match-up. Marcus Mariota threw for 318 yards with three touchdowns while running for 42 more.. Next up for Oregon is a visit from Wyoming (2-0) at 11 am/PAC-12 Network

17 Arizona State Sun Devils (2-0) 58 @ New Mexico Lobos (0-2): D.J. Foster rushed 19 times for 216 yards with a score. ASU put up 621 on offense with 423 on the ground, five Sun Devils had a rushing TD. Taylor Kelly threw for 192 with two TD’s adding 84 more via the ground and a TD. The Sun Devils closed with 26 of the final 28 points. Arizona State opens conference play at Colorado (1-1) for a 7 pm kick on ESPNU

Memphis Tigers (1-1) 35 @ 11 UCLA Bruins (2-0) 42: Another week and another close call for UCLA, this time at home versus Memphis. The Bruins got the winning score with 10:52 remaining in the fourth quarter of a tie game when Brett Hundley connected with Thomas Duarte on a 33 yard touchdown pass. Hundley has 396 yards on the evening while Duarte finished with 110 yards with two scores, Jordan Payton has 104 yards receiving. UCLA travels to Arlington for a 5 pm game against Texas (1-1) on FOX

Oregon State Beavers (2-0) 38 @ Hawai’i Warriors (0-2) 30: Oregon State took a 38-7 lead to the fourth quarter before holding on for an eight point win. Sean Mannion threw for 300 yards yet again with 119 going to Victor Bolden. Terron Ward rushed for 124 yards on 15 carries scoring twice for the Beavers. Oregon State will host San Diego State on September 20 at 7:30 pm/TV TBD
