‘The Pick’ Highlights Oregon Ducks vs Washington Huskies

This weekend in Eugene will be special for anyone who is a fan of the Oregon Ducks. Twenty years ago this month began the turnaround of Oregon football according to some. The statistics don’t lie. The year was 1994 and the Oregon Ducks were sitting on a record below the .500 mark at 359-356-34, after Kenny Wheaton’s runback to beat the Washington Huskies twenty years ago the tipping point for the football program began. From that point Oregon is 177-65 and hitting .731 when it comes to wins.

The team has become a national brand since ‘The Pick’ and has competed for BCS Bowls and National Titles. Oregon will be celebrating this weekend with throwback uniforms designed with today’s materials with the 1994 look. Add to that another statistic dealing with one of the top rivalries in the Pac-12 between the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies, the Ducks winning streak over their Pac-12 North foe.

As of today, Washington has not beaten Oregon in football for four-thousand and two days. That’s over ten years ago. Home teams in the Pac-12 Conference have not fared well in 2014 with a 4-14 record and that may play well for the away team this weekend, but Oregon is favored by three touchdowns on Saturday.

Washington boasts a solid defensive front seven along with Defensive Tackle Danny Shelton and Defensive End Hau’oli Kikaha leading the charge. Kikaha leads the nation with ten sacks this season. Shelton adds seven sacks and nine and a half tackles for loss along with three fumble recoveries. It would be a good time for the Oregon Ducks Offensive Line to get healthy and quick. Of course with Offensive Tackle Jake Fisher returning last week, it should help.

If Washington can contain the Oregon running game and make the Ducks one dimensional an upset is possible(see Arizona just a few weeks ago).

Oregon and Washington kickoff on Saturday at 5pm Pacific Time on Fox Sports 1.
