Oregon Ducks Sitting Pretty At Number Five in First @CFBPlayoff Rankings
The first round of votes for the College Football Playoff have been released, and can we say when it comes to Oregon that I am really surprised with the Week 1 result. The Oregon Ducks are just on the outside looking in at number five with the top four teams being Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Missisippi. Keep in mind each week the Committee will reconvene do a recount, or should I say a re-tally leading up to the final numbers due out December 7th that will set the stage.

There is a lot of football to play between now and then and as I have written this week, the Oregon Ducks are still searching for a ‘signature’ win. Yes, they did win at Cal, but I would not consider a road win over a .500 team to be a Signature victory unless it was a ‘BIG’ win. Beating Michigan State had more weight with the Committee than the loss to Arizona, both teams are ranked behind Oregon. The Spartans are ranked eighth, Arizona is twelfth. There are opportunities ahead for Oregon Ducks to get that ‘signature win’.
The first is this weekend against Stanford, who the Oregon Ducks have lost to the last two consecutive seasons with Quarterback Marcus Mariota at the helm. A victory would also solidify his likely hold on the Heisman Trophy. A loss, and the critics will come out of the woodwork. Mark Helfrich and the team also have a chance to make a statement next weekend on the road against a resurgent Utah team.
There are opportunities to show that Oregon belongs in the Top 4 in the country before the season is done, but they need to start showing it right now. A victory against Stanford would likely be the start considering #3 Auburn and #4 Missisippi face each other this wekeend.
The Oregon Ducks take on Stanford at 4:30pm Pacific Time on FOX.
