Oregon Ducks Do Just Enough to Beat Delaware State

Oregon hosted Delaware State for the first time on Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena and Senior Joseph Young was off to a good start hitting a three in the first three minutes of the game. The Ducks started the game off 5-0 before the Hornets scored their first points, a three pointer. Casey Benson added another three to build Oregon’s lead to 10-3.

In the first six minutes of play Oregon forced three turnovers on Delaware State and a shot block voilation that almost led to points. Oregon built a 16-3 lead. Joseph Young added two more three pointers to help build a 25-11 lead for the Oregon Ducks with 7:54 remaining in the first half. It was a sluggish first half overall for the home team.

For the first half Young led Oregon with fourteen points and five rebounds. To closeout the first half Aamad Rorie was fouled beyond the three point line. He hit two of his three shots to give Oregon a 38-23 lead. At the half Delaware State was two for eleven from beyond the arc. Oregon was five for eleven. At the break it was 38-27 Oregon.

Jalil Abdul-Bassit picked up the Oregon scoring to start the second half along with Joseph Young and Ahmaad Rorie for Oregon as the Ducks extended their lead to 49-31. Abdul-Bassit would find himself at the line shooting three after a foul with 11:02 left. He would make two shots. Oegon would extend their lead to twenty points at 61-41.

Delaware State would bring it to within eleven points with eight minutes left in the game. Bell and Brooks helped Oregon to maintain at least a ten point lead.

Oregon was clearly not at their best from the start, but against Delaware State they found a way to get it done. Abdul-Bassit and Young led the Oregon Ducks on the Offense. Bell had two solid drives to the hoop in the second half as the Ducks found some rhythm. The Oregon Defense played better in the second half than the first.

For the game Oregon had twelve turnovers. Yound led all scorers with twenty-three points. Jalil Abdul-Bassit had twelve. Oregon beat Delaware State and face UC Santa Barbara on Monday night at 9pm Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
