Oregon Finishes Season Ranked 14th in AVCA Coaches Poll

At the beginning of the season the Oregon Ducks Women’s Volleyball team was on the outside looking in. They began 2014 slotted twenty-sixth in the country, one spot from being ranked. Now, with the season over and the team having a successful season and flirting with a ranking above the tenth slot at times, the team finishes out the regular season in a very respectable position.

In the final AVCA Rankings of the year, the Oregon Ducks ranked fourteenth following their third round loss to the University of North Carolina. The top team in the country is unanimous. The Penn State Nittany Lions went through Stanford and BYU to take the title last weekend. It was the seventh National Title for the Nittany Lions in Women’s Volleyball as the Russ Rose coached dynasty continues in Happy Valley.

Last week following the season Oregon’s Martenne Bettendorf was honored as an All-American finishing the season with over three kills per set and hitting at an average of .309 leading Oregon to a Sweet 16 performance in the NCAA Tournament. She will return next season to lead Oregon in 2015.

With the conclusion of the season, Liz Brenner, finished her Oregon Ducks career. Her accomplishments went farther than Volleyball. She also played Women’s Basketball, Softball and had a hand in Track and Field last year. According to GoDucks.com, Brenner finishes her career second in program history for points (1,775.5), third in kills (1,617) and 10th in digs (1,140).
