Oregon Ducks Fall to Arizona, Shoot Thirty Five Percent from the Field

With a full Pit-Crew back in full force in the Oregon Student section, one of the most anticipated games of the season began with Arizona winning the opening tip. The Ducks would get off to another slow start as Arizona jumped to a 12-2 lead as the first media timeout came at just over sixteen minutes to play in the first half.

The Oregon Ducks two points came off a jam by Elgin Cook. Joseph Young and Dillon Brooks brought Oregon within seven with 12:16 to go in the first half. Arizona had a lot going their way including baskets inside the paint in the first half. Points in the first half were not found outside the arc, but from two point range for both teams.

Oregon would pull within five points when Casey Benson was fouled outside the three point line on a shot with just over eight minutes to go in the first half.

Oregon would cut the lead to two as Casey Benson hit a three two posessions later for Oregon briging a close to sellout crowd to their feet at Matthew Knight Arena. It would not last long as Arizona would hit on three consecutive trips down the floor to put their lead back to eight points 31-23 with just under five minutes left in the first half.

Foul trouble would hit Oregon in the first half as Starter Elgin Cook went to the bench with just over four minutes to play in the first half with his third foul. He was replaced by Jordan Bell in the Ducks lineup. Dillon Brooks would bring Oregon within three with just under two and a half minutes to go in the first half. Foul shots would keep Oregon in the game as Joseph Young would hit two shots.

Arizona points inside would plague the Ducks for the rest of the half as the Wildcats would again extend their lead, this time to seven points. Elliott Pitts would find himself in foul trouble late in the first half with three fouls and�Dana Altman would find his team down five at the break. Arizona had twenty points in the paint in the first half and just one three point shot made out of seven attempts. Oregon was two for seven from three at that point of the game.

Early in the second half Elgin Cook would pick up his fourth foul and Arizona would extend their lead to eleven. Arizona’s T.J. McConnell would pick up his fourth foul before the ten minute mark and Jordan Bell would pull the Oregon Ducks within nine points. Arizona would again bounce right back to a fourteen point lead.

Joseph Young would get a breakaway two with just under ten minutes to play pulling Oregon within ten points of Arizona. Elgin Cook would reenter the game with 8:31 to go and pickup his fifth foul exiting the game. The Ducks would try, but Arizona kept hitting back with either points in the paint or hitting free throws.

Oregon never had the lead at any point in the game, but also had a ton of shots that did not fall throughout the night that could have made a difference.

The Ducks fall to 11-4 and 1-1 in the Pac-12. Arizona remains undefeated in Pac-12 play at 2-0 and 14-1 overall. Final score, Arizona 80, Oregon 62, Joseph Young was 4-15 for the game.
