Throughout the regular season every team is tested. So far the Oregon Softball team has passed every test. Following a night where they defeated seventh ranked Baylor on their home turf, the Ducks turned to twenty-fifth ranked Tulsa and came out with a 4-2 victory extending their longest season opening win streak to thirteen games. Mike White and his team have yet to be defeated this season and are ranked number two in the country. The ranking appears well deserved just a few weeks into the season.

The hero on Thursday was Janie Takeda with a three run homerun securing the 4-1 win over the Baylor Bears. Thursday brought another two game set and Oregon had an early win over Abilene Christian 8-0 before beating Tulsa. Jenna Lilley hit a double in the third inning that cleared the bases giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead. Oregon never looked back. Tulsa cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning, but the Ducks shut the door as Cheridan Hawkins came in for the final two outs of the game. Karissa Hovinga started the game and Geri Anne Glasco played in relief.

Oregon is now 4-0 against Top 25 teams this season and will face Baylor again this afternoon to conclude the Baylor Invitational. Oregon has played games for five consecutive days thanks in part to inclimate weather last week in Texas. The start of games last week were moved back a day to Tuesday. Following Saturday’s action against North Texas and Baylor Oregon will not play again until next Friday in San Diego.

The San Diego Classic which begins on Friday, February 27th will feature a team that Oregon had problems with last season in Florida. The Ducks will face the Gators on Friday at 11:30am following an early game with St. Johns (9am).
