After a weekend sweep that saw Oregon outscored 29-11 at Arizona, athletic director Rob Mullens announced that the school will be ending the season immediately. Mullens said that the program will also be disbanded once again.

“After another tough weekend that saw our Ducks fall to 17-11 and 2-7 in PAC-12 play I’ve decided that our program is going to shut down again. We’d like to thank head coach George Horton for all that he’s done since he’s arrived in Eugene but this clearly isn’t working.”

Both men admitted that since they cannot defeat Oregon State this was the appropriate move for the university going forward.

“When I was hired to relaunch this program it was clear that outside of winning conference titles it was to defeat/finish above Oregon State.” said Horton “It’s on me that we were unable to do either in my time as head coach.”

The team was scheduled to play midweek games against Portland on May 31 and Seattle on April 1 before hosting Michigan State this weekend. Oregon lost against Portland on Tuesday and that was the final straw. Remaining games obviously have been cancelled, season ticket holders will get full refunds, as will anyone who bought tickets for any remaining games.

Players looking somber after meeting with Horton and Mullens at PK Park all declined to meet with local media there covering the announcement.

Oregon brought back baseball six years ago where Horton was 224-145-1 leading the Ducks to postseason play in 2010, ’12-’14 including the Super Regional in 2012 against Kent State.

All scholarships will be honored for those players wishing to remain at the school to pursue their degree.

Of course, one would hope that the Oregon Ducks would not go to such drastic measures, and the truth is, they haven’t. This is just another April Fool’s Day post.

Happy April Fool’s Day!
