Oregon Ducks Drop Series vs Michigan State, Lose Seven of Last Eight Games

It was not a good weekend for the Oregon Ducks on the diamond. The Pac-12/Big Ten series with Michigan State was a first for both teams and the Spartans had the upper hand in each game of the series sending the Oregon Ducks to three losses over the weekend at PK Park and another slump that seems to be growing as George Horton has watched his team on the wrong end of the scoreboard again and now losing seven of their last eight games.

In Game One of the series the Oregon Ducks mustered just two hits in nine innings and let a lead off walk late in the game lead to the deciding run for Michigan State. In games two and three the Ducks fell behind and were not able to catch up. The team did show more fight with the bat on Sunday as Scott Heineman hit a two run home run in a 7-4 loss that also featured an over two hour weather delay due to lightning and hail in the Eugene/Springfield area.

Oregon, now at 18-15 on the season can jump start their second half this weekend as they host Oregon State for three games. As it stands it has been a rough season for Horton and the Oregon Ducks. Just over a month ago they were ranked in the top ten in many polls, but have since fallen out of the rankings. Horton in his post game press conference compared the game of baseball to a salesman who sells door to door and gets all amped up, knocks on doors, gives his best presentation and comes away with nothing. Sometimes the highs are high and the lows are low.

The game can be cruel, but sometimes the only way out of a slump, is to keep playing and play your way out. It is what Oregon must do.
