Oregon Softball Sweeps Arizona State For Fifth Straight Win
The Oregon Ducks Softball team showed one of the big reasons for being ranked second in the nation on Sunday in the finale and series sweep of Arizona State at Howe Field. Starting Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins needed just ten pitches to get out of the first inning. Her counterpart, Breanna Macha from Arizona State was having problems early against the Ducks Offense and needed over fifty pitches to get out of the first inning. She did settle down to throw six innings for the Sun Devils.
Oregon put up four runs in the first two innings and Hawkins went on for her eighteeth win on the season. Arizona State tried to make it interesting in the latter inning climbing back into the game with a key hit and a home run making it 4-3 in the seventh before Hawkins shut the door with a strikeout and a flyout to end the game.
Oregon now leads the Pac-12 by four and a half games over UCLA and have won five straight games and nineteen of their last twenty one following a loss to Florida early in March. The Ducks head to Portland this week for a double header on Tuesday before continuing the road trip for a three game series at Stanford this weekend.
