Oregon Ducks Starter Cheridan Hawkins got off to a rough start giving up two early home runs to the heart of of the Bruins lineup. UCLA would easily keep their 2-0 lead into the sixth when the Bruins exploded for five more runs to take a 7-0 lead. UCLA played a better game and deserved the win. The Ducks had their chances, but base running mistakes early led eight Ducks left on base including loading the bases with two out in the fourth inning.
Hawkins was pulled for Karissa Hovinga in the sixth after a fly ball fell to the ground sparking the sixth inning rally. Outfielder Alyssa Gillespie had a bead on the ball as it came out of her glove. The out would have gotten Hawkins out of the inning, instead two additional runs scored for the Bruins. The road back for Oregon now is long.
