Former Oregon Coach Nick Aliotti Discusses UCLA Incident With @SiriusXMCollege

The incident, as it is being called, between Diddy and UCLA Strength Coach Sal Alosi is something that should never have happened. Earlier this week, Diddy approached the coach in his office and the meeting, according to reports did not go well ending with Diddy being arrested for assault with a kettlebell.

My personal thoughts – just because you have a high profile and a successful career with the media following you everywhere is not a reason to go off on the coach who is trying to help your son become a better athlete, player and person.

According to CoachingSearch.com, former Oregon Ducks Defensive Coordinator Nick Aliotti spoke with

recently and Aliotti said he had a simple hard and fast policy when it came to dealing with the parents of student athletes when discussing football related activities. He didn’t, ” I will never talk to you about your son’s playing time, his ability or anything like that. That’s what we (coaches) took care of. He’s a grown man now. He knew why he was or wasn’t playing. Let him tell you.”

The approach allowed Aliotti to do his job and keep a cool head with parents, not that he always did so with his players, but it allowed him to focus his energy on teaching his students rather than teaching parents how to act. In my opinion this incident should never have happened, or been allowed to escalate to the point it did.

"I had one time I got a phone call from a parent and I said right on the phone, ‘End of conversation, football-wise. Let’s move on.’ I never had any (confrontations) with parents.Former Oregon Defensive Coordinator Nick Aliotti Talking About Dealing With Parents of Student Athletes on SiriusXM College Sports Nation"
