FINAL Report – Oregon Ducks Dominant In Bowl Eligible Win vs Cal

Preview:

We all remember two seasons ago when the Oregon Ducks hosted the California Golden Bears. Yes, it was an Oregon Victory, but the bigger story that day was the monsoon that took over throughout the game bringing wind and rain to Autzen Stadium, even though it was not a rain, it was by many considered simply a heavy mist. The weather on Saturday night is expected to again be wet, but not nearly as windy as 24 months ago. Both teams come in, but one has a Quarterback that has thrown for over 25oo yards this season. Jared Goff has shown he can throw the ball to the tune of 22 touchdowns on the year so far. It helps when you have tall Wide Receivers to throw to.

Kenny Lawler leads the team with nine touchdowns and a 12.5 yards per catch average. Lawler is just one of the key players on Saturday. Trevor Davis and Bryce Treggs will also see their share of the ball. Between the three of them they have accounted for over half of the scoring offense for the California Golden Bears this season. On the other side of the ball, Cal boasts one of the better Defensive turnover ratios in the country coming into the game with 22 turnovers and 10 forced fumbles on the season. Of late the Bears Defense has fallen short in the category, but have remained at the top despite just a handful of turnovers to their advantage the last three games. For Oregon, it is all about the Identity Found on Offense.

Oregon started the season looking for an Identity and they had to go on the road to find it. Well, that’s part of the story. Vernon Adams is the other along with returning Wide Receiver Darren Carrington who again will be the Ducks biggest Offensive threat(or duo) against Cal. Once again, the area of concern, as has been all season for Mark Helfrich and Company remains the shoddy, pick apart easy Oregon Ducks Secondary. However, keep in mind that the Starters at Corner are just into their fourth game, and one, Tyree Robinson, converted from Safety. I will give credit where it is due and it is for the Secondary following the win at Arizona State.

Despite giving up a ton of yards, over 700, it came down to being in the right place at the right time and Arrion Springs was. An interception in the end zone sealed the win against the Sun Devils. I will look for Springs to be a key player in the game tonight against Cal. He may even have an interception. It is different when you are thrust into a role you are not prepared to play. Springs has taken some time to grow into the role, and his growth continues tonight with some experience to build on.  Here’s some links to catch up on before the game:
