Jillian Alleyne and Lexi Petersen Lead Oregon To First Pac-12 Win Over Cal

Following the heartbreaker against Stanford on Friday night, the Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball team got back to work against the California Golden Bears on Sunday.

It was a good start for Oregon in the First Quarter of action as the team started out 3 for 6 from the floor hitting 57 percent. Jillian Alleyne would hit a basket on a foul extending the Ducks lead to 6 points 10-4 just past the midway point of the quarter.

Oregon started the Second Quarter pushing their lead to 7 points with an Alleyne shot in the paint followed by Vandenberg off a pass from Jillian Alleyne forcing a Cal timeout. It was Alleyne again that found the basket to push the Oregon lead to 10 points. The Senior would have the hot hand as the first half came to a close putting up 15 points and 5 rebounds with a half left to play. Oregon shot over 50 percent from the floor and took a 31-17 lead into the break. The Ducks held Cal to 4 points in the second quarter.

The Third Quarter proved strong for Oregon for the second straight game as Oregon started with 9 points off three pointers. In the period Jillian Alleyne became the All-Time Pac-12 Rebound record holder with 1568 career rebounds and counting. Former University of Oregon Coach and Player Bev Smith was on hand to as a spectator for the special moment. Alleyne broke Smith’s rebounding record at the U of O earlier this season.

Oregon stepped on the gas in the Third Quarter pushing their lead to 14 outscoring Cal 20-11. Lexi Petersen was fouled with 5 seconds to go allowing Cal to hit three foul shots.

The Ducks held a 9 point lead mid way through the 4th Quarter as another Oregon player passed a career milestone. Lexi Petersen scored her 1000th point in an Oregon uniform as Kelly Graves saw his team lead 57-46 with 4:46 to play in the game.

Oregon would hold off Cal for their first Pac-12 Conference win of the year. Jillian Alleyne had a double double with 25 points and 15 rebounds shooting 11 of 14 from the floor. Lexi Petersen and Lexi Bando combined for 5 three point shots on the afternoon.

The Oregon Ducks heads back on the road this week to take on the Mountain schools in Colorado and Utah. The Buffaloes are are up first Friday at 5pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Network.
