Following an off day yesterday, the second half of the 2016 Olympic Trials continues with one event Wednesday, the Hammer Throw.
During the 2012 Olympic Trials, the Hammer Throw was held on the Auxiliary Field at Hayward, but there was a problem. It was too small. The Hammer Throw differs from other events like the Discus or Javelin in the fact that the Hammer can travel close to and over 200 feet. The challenge entering 2016 was how to make this event not only fit better in the confines of Hayward Field, but also findĀ a way to get the fans out.
One event means that athlete safety for other events will not be an issue.
Today is the only day of the Olympic Trials that is free to attend. No Ticket needed. There are several College Athletes in competition today, and just two, Greg Skipper and Britney Henry from the Oregon Ducks. Although it is one event, the importance is still there for these athletes. Six spots are up for grabs on the Olympic Team in Rio next month.
Autzen Zoo will have coverage of the 2016 Olympic Trials. We get back to multiple events on Thursday that start with Britney Mann in the Shotput and conclude with Sam Prakel in the 1500 Meters for the Oregon Ducks.
