It has been a month and a day since the Olympic Track and Field Trials concluded at Hayward Field and we started with over forty with ties to the U of O. Now, twenty of them have a chance to compete for Gold both from the United States, Canada and Countries around the world. The competition gets going early in Track and Field on Friday when Brianne Thiessen-Eaton takes to the Track in Rio in the Heptathalon at 5:30am Pacific time.

Early rounds of Track events will follow with English Gardner in the 100 meters on Friday, with the Final on Saturday. Deajah Stevens and Jenna Prandini will compete on Monday in the 200 meters with the Final on Wednesday next week. On the Men’s side Ashton Eaton will get started with his Decathalon Defense and look to make it back to back Olympic wins starting next week.

The Decathalon events are set to begin on Wednesday, August 17th. Between now and then on the Men’s side some of the highlights include Devon Allen in the 110 Meter Hurdles on Monday, with a Tuesday Final. The Men’s 1500 Meters takes place tomorrow with the Final on Monday and has Ben Blankenship and Matthew Centrowitz competing with ties to the Oregon Ducks.

Galen Rupp competes in the 10,000 Meters on Saturday, August 13th. The Men’s Pole Vault is another event to watch on Saturday with Sam Hendricks in competition. He made the team in Eugene last month with a crowd behind him as he attempted to break a record, which he didn’t but the atmosphere in that 10 minutes at Hayward Field was among the best of the ten days of the Olympic Trials.
