Oregon Drops Match Against Florida

There were some nerves on Friday night for all four teams in Eugene for the Vert Challege, but the only teams that were rattled in the end were Florida and Oregon, the two meet tonight to conclude the Tournament.

Day 1 Reset:

To open the season Nebraska appeared ready for the challenge. Following mistakes in in Set 1 on Friday night, they put it together. Florida found a way out of Set 1 with a victory. The Cornhuskers have not lost a set since before the NCAA’s last season. It did not take long for Nebraska to find their tempo to put Sets 2 and 3 out of reach for the Gators and win the match.

Four players had double digit kills for the Cornhuskers led by Kadie Rolfzen with 16. Mikaela Foeke led with a .538 hitting percentage. For Florida, Alex Holston hit .310 with 18 kills. As a team the Gators had 4 blocks.

The anticipation of the evening session began winding up just after 6pm as the crowd began to grow from the first game. Oregon entered the match against Texas with the 2nd best recruiting class in 2016, but youth was not served. Kacy Nady put together a solid performance to start the season as the Ducks took one set over Texas, but lost the match 3-1.

On Saturday the National Championship Rematch between Texas and Nebraska gets the Vert Challenge started at 3:30pm Pacific Time, followed by Florida and Oregon at 6:30pm PT. The Oregon game will also be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network and available in Eugene on 88.1 KVWA.
