Oregon Ducks Outplayed By Washington Huskies in Blowout Loss

The Washington Huskies sent the Oregon Ducks to their 4th straight loss and ended a 12 game losing streak on Saturday night.

The Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies has long been one of the most bitter rivalries in the Pac-12 Conference and the country. Oregon was looking for the 13^th straight win going back to 2004. The Ducks won the coin toss and elected to start the game with the ball.

Justin Herbert started the game with a pass that was intercepted by the Huskies. The Oregon Defense gave up a touchdown after two plays to make it 7-0 Washington. Oregon would look to regroup on their second possession which ended better than the first with a three and out and a punt.

The Oregon Defense looked to regroup following an injury timeout on a 2^nd and 5 for Washington. Darryl Daniels picked up eight yards as the drive continued for the Huskies. Washington had close to 100 yards of Offense midway through the first quarter and took a 14 point with half of the quarter to play.

Justin Herbert saw another drive with minimal gain and a missed throw down field to Charles Nelson. It was another three and out for the Ducks, but Herbert was close to completing the pass. The ball went back to Washington and the Oregon Defense looked to hold on third and six. Oregon held and got the ball back to the Offense. Justin Hollins had Jake Browning in his sights and missed the tackle. A penalty made it fourth down and the Huskies punted.

Oregon was able to move the ball on the next drive, but it stalled with the run game not getting much on the Washington Defense. Herbert threw an incomplete pass on 4^th down and the next play from Washington hurt, a 65-yard touchdown run from Miles Gaskin. The hill was quickly becoming harder to climb down 21-0 with just over two minutes left in the first quarter.

Mark Helfrich would see his team get positive yardage with just under 8 minutes left in the half as Royce Freeman finally broke free for a few runs, but he fumbled the ball at the Washington 6, giving the ball back to the Huskies and ending what could have been a scoring drive for Oregon.

Washington handed the ball to Miles Gaskin again who ripped off 65 yards that led to another touchdown pass for the Huskies and a 28-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the first half.

Oregon would score with 3:33 left in the first half as Justin Herbert found Tony Brooks-James in the end zone to make it 28-7. The Huskies would add a touchdown before halftime for a 35-7 lead.

Washington added a touchdown to start the second half and Oregon saw Tony Brooks-James take the team down the field before Justin Herbert found Taj Griffin off the right side who took it in for a touchdown making it 42-14.

The Huskies added another score and 49-14 was the most points Oregon had given up to Washington going back 39 years to 1977. Chris Peterson’s team had come to Eugene and doubled up Oregon in Offensive yards in under three-quarters using the run game to take advantage. Washington had speed that the Ducks Defense could not keep up with all night.

The one bright spot was the breaking in of Quarterback Justin Herbert who after shaking off an early interception to start the game showed great vision on several plays highlighted by a pass to Taj Griffin for a touchdown in the third quarter. It would be the Ducks fourth straight loss with a bye week coming up to prepare for a Friday night game against Cal in two weeks.
