Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball Handles Portland Pilots

The Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball team continued their non-conference slate against the Portland Pilots on Friday night.

Entering the week, the Oregon Women’s team was just one spot outside of the Associated Press Top 25 going 6-1 to start the season looking to push it to 7-1 and their third straight victory at home against Portland.

After early missed baskets on both ends of the floor, Sabrina Ionescu and Lexi Bando gave Oregon a 9-0 lead on Portland forcing a Pilots timeout.

The rest of the quarter was Portland coming back. With 2:09 left in the first quarter it was 12-11 Oregon. Slaga was starting to find a rhythm with 5 points. Julie Spencer hit a three-pointer to give the Pilots the lead 14-12 with just over a minute left in the quarter.  Oregon lost the first quarter but stormed back to start the 2nd.

Two three-pointers gave the lead back to Oregon and Ruthy Hebard hit a rebound basket followed by a steal and another Hebard basketv gave Oregon a 27-18 lead. The Ducks started the second half on an 11-0 run outscoring Portland 26-10 in the second quarter. Hebard would net a double-double in the first half  with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Ducks took a 42-28 lead into halftime.

Kelly Graves continued to push pace in the third quarter. Oregon outscored the Pilots 23-7 and took a 30 point lead. 13 players saw floor time entering the 4th Quarter with a comfortable lead. The Ducks shot 54 percent through three-quarters and were 33 percent from beyond the arc.

Oregon held Portland to 30 percent shooting and hit over 50 percent from the floor. The Ducks came close to doubling up the Pilots 81-41.

The team now heads East to face undefeated Clemson on Monday at 4pm Pacific Time.
