Before the start of the season the buzz around Sabina Ionescu coming to the Oregon Ducks was big, but now it could be seen as the storyline of the season.

Ionescu has outdone the competition that she has faced on several occasions with multiple triple-double performances and a buzzer beater three-pointer that lifted Oregon to their first Pac-12 win of the season. Entering this weekend, the Oregon Ducks could easily be 0-4 in the Conference but they are not. With Ionescu in the lineup, they are 2-2.

Hero Sports recently caught up with the Oregon Ducks Freshman who said she came in aware of what she could be, but without expectation, “I didn’t really have any expectations coming in to be honest, I have just been having fun and working hard and we are a good team. (Other players and coaches) support me and believe in me and what I can accomplish here.”

Her willingness to succeed was learned at an early age for Sabrina Ionescu. In her first College season she is averaging over 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. She missed five games this season due to a thumb injury that she is still working her way back from.  It was an injury that she found a way to practice through and play through.

Ionescu’s strength is clear. She has willed her team to wins this season and if she is this good as a Freshman, the future for Oregon Women’s Basketball will be all the better.
