Oregon Football Recruiting: Ducks Get Defensive On Saturday Night

The Oregon Football team received two more Defensive Commitments on Saturday night.

Linebacker Isaac Slade-Matuatia and Austin Faoliu made their respective announcements at the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii on Saturday night. The game featured two different teams – one was ‘Team Mariota’ – if that doesn’t speak volumes about another former Oregon Football Player – I’m not sure what does.

Isaac Slade-Matuatia has a tie to Mariota. They went to the same high school. He is listed as a 4-Star Prospect at Outside Linebacker according to 247Sports and was recruited by Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt. In shifting back to the 3-4 Defense Slade-Matuatia could easily see time on the field as a Freshman depending on the rotation. He is considered the 2nd best athlete out of Hawaii.

Austin Faoliu has had his eye on both the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes. He recently visited Oklahoma, but gave the Ducks his commitment on Saturday night. According to 247Sports, Faoliu is a three-star Defensive Tackle rated the 82nd best at his position. It is clear that Jim Leavitt knows what he wants out of his defense.

Both Slade-Matuatia and Faoliu will help with securing the Rush Defense for Oregon. Expect Slade-Matuatia and Faoliu to be keys to the Oregon Football Defense moving forward. A player with a connection to the best Quarterback to wear the uniform as a Duck cannot be a bad thing.
