Oregon Softball Opens 2017 Season 2-0 At Kajikawa Classic

Oregon Ducks Softball started the 2017 season similar to how they have played in past seasons, with a blistering Offense and solid pitching.

It did not take long for Veterans and newcomers to mesh on Thursday in the first of two games in the Kajikawa Classic. The Oregon Ducks met Virginia in Game One and took control early. Mike White watched his team pick up 8 runs in the first two innings. Transfer Alexis Mack has two hits and three runs in an 11-6 win over the Cavaliers.

Four new players Started the game, including Mack. Miranda Elish coud be a key to the Ducks success this season. She started the game as Designated Player, but also pitched to lead Oregon to the win. Nikki Udria had two hits, three runs and four RBI’s vs Virginia.

The second game of the day saw similar results.

Megan Kleist earned her first win of the season over Creighton. Mia Camuso ended the game in the sixth with a two-run bases loaded double in the sixth. In softball there is a run rule that was invoked for the first time this season. Gwen Svekis had two hits in four at-bats. Camuso ended the game with two hits, a run, and two RBI’s.

The Kajikawa Classic continues on Friday with games against San Jose State(8am PT) and Fresno State(10:45am PT).
