Oregon Ducks Come Up Short vs Stanford Cardinal

Oregon finished the regular season 6th in the Pac-12 following a loss to Stanford in their final home game on Sunday.

The Oregon Women’s Basketball team knew they were in for a battle against 8th Ranked Stanford on Sunday. It was Senior Day at Matthew Knight Arena. As Stanford won the opening tip and hit the first three-pointer of the game on their first possession, Oregon fought back. They did it for the entire first quarter.

Sabrina Ionescu hit a key shot as both teams were tied at the end of the 1st Quarter at 15. Stanford extended their lead midway through the 2nd Quarter to 21-17, but the Oregon Ducks hit a basket to again bring the game within two points. Stanford was hitting 41 percent from the floor, but the Ducks were hitting 67 percent from beyond the arc midway through the 2nd Quarter.

The end of the Quarter saw Stanford with a 6 point lead. The Oregon Ducks held on Defense to close out the second quarter.

Stanford started the second half the same way the began the game, with a three-pointer. Midway through the 3rd Quarter the Cardinal found some separation pushing the lead to 11 points. Oregon pulled to within six in the fourth quarter, but a foul and quick bucket extended the lead for Stanford to 53-44. Sabrina Ionescu brought it back to 7 with two foul shots and just over 5 minutes remaining in the game.

Lexi Bando made it a 5 point game with just over 2 minutes left. In the end Stanford was too much landing key shots in the final moments for a 65-59 win over the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon will be the 6 Seed in the Women’s Pac-12 Tournament in Seattle. They will face 11 Seed Arizona in their opening round game on Thursday.
